Frequently asked questions

Small-format and social packs, answered.

Why do mini and travel-size packs need their own design brief?

Because shrinking a full-size design breaks legibility, color accuracy, and hierarchy at small scale. In US prestige fragrance, mini and travel juices grew 12% by units and discovery sets 41% through the first nine months of 2025 (Circana), so the small format is now a growth engine and a trial that has to represent the brand, not a throwaway. It has to be re-checked physically at its real size.

How is designing for social commerce different?

Social packs are judged in-hand, in motion, on a small bright screen. US social commerce reached $87 billion in 2025 and TikTok Shop, where beauty is a top category, grew 108% (eMarketer). The pack has to read at thumbnail, photograph true, and hold up on camera, which drives different finish, color, and form decisions than a shelf pack.

How do you know a small-format or social pack still works?

By checking it physically at its real size and in its real conditions, holding the actual travel size and shooting it under the light it’ll be filmed in, rather than approving an enlarged version on a monitor. Legibility, color, and finish behave differently at 10ml and on camera.

Is this only a beauty problem?

Beauty is where it’s most visible, minis, suncare going year-round, and social commerce, but the pattern applies anywhere growth is shifting to small formats and on-screen discovery. Any brand whose hero is showing up smaller and on a phone faces the same two tests.
